What 'Face said
I downloaded this but wasn't gonna post it, but after I actually gave it a listen... just see for yourself. Emeritus indeed.
Niña, Pinta, Santa María
Tis The Season
Possibly the most amazing single athletic feat I've seen in my life, that happened during a regulation sporting event. (That excludes that time Drew put my man from Sigma Chi's fastbreak dunk on the TOP of the backboard... from BEHIND) Why do all these dope-ass clips seem to be coming out of the DMV?
Permission Granted
The homey at Waiting 2 Speak passed this our way. Chick's name is Shy'm and no I'm not sure how that is pronounced--she's French. What I do know is that this chick is bad as fluck. At first you'll say, "Oh she look like Alicia Keys," which is cuz she's mixed like Alicia, and her stylist musta did Shy'm's wardrobe in this video. But not long after you say, "This chick may be the new prototype." She is like the best of Alicia Keys, Eva Longoria, and Nicole Scherzinger in one human body which I thought was an impossibility until now. God loves France more than us, He gives them women like this. Another reason to vote for Obama.
Personally, this song isn't my cup of tea. It sounds like Ja Rule-era R&B. I like this song-video combo below a lil better. Well, let's just say she could sing whatever she wanted to this video:

Every time I catch this commercial, I stop what I'm doing. Definitely priceless.

This beat sucks
Fader tells me this song got cut from The Wire's Season 4 soundtrack. The hook and beat suck so terribly, I kinda just wish it were released acapella. Either way, it's old--like, Studio 43 old--and Wale's come a long way since. Redemption granted.
Chicken & Beer
If you know me personally and wonder why I either hit you with a weekly bulk text or dont answer my phone at all on Monday... ask them good people over at Rhino Bar. Where else can you catch Monday Night Football on three 100+" screens, simulcast baseball games on 36" flats, $5-$6 drinks (on the east coast), and TEN CENT WINGS? And when I say they kicks it... them white folks love it. Rhino Bar is a proud Philadelphia Eagles bar, hence I witnessed a nigga (sans melanin) named Ben play a trombone after over 200 sage-clad fans sang Fly, Eagles Fly in unison following every touchdown scored against Dallas.
You can catch me there every week about 5 deep on average, splitting a $40 dollar tab for 4 pitchers of Yuengling and 80 wings.

I'm tired of being a damn critic all the time... this joint as fly a can of red bull. No, Pharrell can't sing. Yes, Pharrell is a cornball of a writer. Who cares? This remix reminds me of the 90s and the 90s were dope. Period. Same groovy ass beat, new message (word to Keenan Ivory) and Lupe's verse was nothing short of remarkable. I think this dude somehow progresses with each release.

If you havent resided in the DMV for the last two years, you might not be aware of the dopeness that is Clockwise Clothing... get familiar. This tee is off the chain and so's everything else over there, including the models. Whatup Nick & CO!
$1 a share?
Citiqroup bought Wachovia today for $1 a share. Cot durn... and that bailout's sposed to make a difference? Guess we'll see. Kinda funny though, considering that the School District of Philadelphia banks with Wachovia, and I opened up an account when I moved out here. Good thing I still got that trusty BofA account from my Wash U days. Looks like they were the only national bank with some sense during the decade-long mortgage madness.
As the "crisis" deepens and more of the weak banks die off or get swallowed into these new mega-banks, it makes me wonder about the future. Yeah, we're staving off a huge recession, or so they say, but consolidating the nation's capital within a small number of financial institutions is kinda scary to me. It could amount to corporate socialism, or, perhaps more appropriately, a fiduciary oligarchy (yeah, somebody knows big words, and I didn't even steal that phrase off the internet).
Money itself is already heavily consolidated within the hands of a small percentage of the population. Still, we could say that the rest of us pretty much spread our money out among different banks. Now, there are only a few financial institutions left standing and after they write off all the debt incurred under the crazy mortgage, they will hold a ginormous sum of the nation's capital, and that sounds a little more like the Book of Revelation than I feel comfortable admitting.
The Wachovia situation doesn't make me worry about my money, mainly cuz I don't have much and what I do have is well below the FDIC insurance level of $100,000. My dough is safe. It does make me worry about cities like Charlotte, North Carolina, which owes its skyline (and the majority of its infrastructure) to the Wachovia Building and the Bank of America Building. That's when things get bad.
I went to Charlotte to see my sister graduate from college last May. I was shocked by how new and how clean everything was. The financial industry helped reshape a sleepy southern town and is a big reason why so many people who go to school down there, stay down there. What happens now?

Cowboys and Indians
YEAH BUDDY!!! I was a lil too busy last night to celebrate via blog, but I guess me and the homey got some celebrating to do. Too bad it had to be Philly tho. And cot durn, the NFC East is a monster! Either way, Redskins fans know that a win over Dallas (in Dallas, no less!) is a close second to winning the Lombardi trophy. I'm feeling good--well about sports anyway.
YVAN EHT NIOJ
So I'm the Magic Johnson theaters in Largo, MD to catch Miracle at St. Anna, which, happens to be a phenomenal film. Anywho, I was blessed with this video during the previews...

The Prototype
Janelle Monae - Many Moons
It's been a long time coming. The video premiered on 106 & Park yesterday. I told yall Janelle was the truth. This music video gave me chills. It's fresh, creative, thematic, and politically subversive, but still manages to be equally entertaining.
And yeah, Jane dancing at the end? Vicious. It cuts off early tho. Not cool.

Dollars and Sense
So I'm perusing Yahoo!, which I do far too often for any mild-mannered citizen such as myself, and happen upon an article detailing how some people in Maine (I almost forgot that state still existed) came up with a simple online tool that calculates your taxes under a McCain administration versus an Obama administration.
Obama has made no secret that he plans to raise taxes for families making $250K+ and singles making $200K+. Conversely, those making less would get a cut. I still don't understand how or why McCain even continues to bring up taxes cuz it's pretty obvious Obama has the better plan, unless you're a selfish prick making more than $250,000 and think you should pay less taxes. For the rest of us, i.e. the vast majority of this nation, the tool proves what Obama's been saying: you'll pay less taxes under his administration. I entered my figures and the Obama plan means I'll pay $700 LESS than under McCain's. As if you needed another reason to vote for Obama
I think Republicans and their free-market policies have proven to be fundamentally corrupt. I just don't trust them with my money. People are greedy, the more you make, the more you want to make. Plus, Obama's half-immigrant and I promise you, immigrants know how to save money. I'd trust my money blindly to most immigrants any day.
I've always found it funny how conservatives comfortably attach themselves to Christianity without embracing its most important principles. They forget it when it comes to their money. Tax dollars that help the poor? Poor people should help themselves. It's not the government's job. That's true, but I don't run across too many moneyed people when I'm at work here in Southwest Philadelphia. Wonder why...
I haven't spoken on the whole economic crisis, mostly cuz much of it eludes me. I didn't even step foot into Olin until Junior year, and that was cuz they had a soup that I couldn't get anywhere else on campus. Still, I remember debating the valors of free-market trade in high school government classes and in the end, the advocates' argument always silently rested on one thing: selfishness.
If I'm making over $200,000, I honestly wouldn't complain about paying higher taxes. I don't think it would affect my ability to pay my rent or mortgage, make a car payment, or make it rain whenever I go out to [insert uber-exclusive venue in whatever uber-expensive city I would live in]. Percentage-wise, it would amount to pennies in a well. If that does bother you, you're an ass. Simply stated.
And I don't like the idea of my precious tax dollars being diverted to Wall Street either. Let them fix it. Shoot, public school teachers are essentially government employees anyway, my job is safe. Hearing about all the minutia just reminded me of Animal Farm. The irony that an anti-communist manifesto reminded me of this real-life lesson on the logical ends of unfettered free-market capitalism was sadly hilarious. They're not sending me to the glue factory.
The negotiated compromise that leaked midday yesterday sounded a lot better than the blank check Paulson was asking for. Still, I don't like the premise of the idea as a whole. Surprisingly, the alternate plan devised by renegade Republicans, seemed much more palatable than the compromise, even though people are attacking it. But of all the plans, this one outlined in the Wall St. Journal is the best and most common sense. The liabilities lie on Wall St and they should stay there. Taxpayers, by way of the federal government, shouldn't absorb these losses, shareholders should. The sty is for the corporate pigs, not us.

Same Ish, Different Toilet
From yesterday's Oregonian
Students and campus leaders at George Fox University denounced the hanging of a life-size cardboard cutout of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama on campus, vowing to work together to fight racism and intolerance.
A custodial crew at the 3,355-student Christian university found the Obama likeness hanging by fishing wire from a tree at 7 a.m. Tuesday and tore it down before students arrived for classes.
A sign taped to the cutout said, "Act Six reject," referring to a scholarship program for Portland students, many of whom are minorities.
President Robin Baker, standing with dozens of Act Six students and student leaders in front of a packed auditorium Wednesday morning, urged students to show the incident has no place in Christian ideals.
Baker said the incident was a blow to efforts over the past several years to recruit more diverse students by developing relationships with minority groups in Portland. This fall, 25 percent of the 390 freshmen are students of color, up from 16 percent in 2005.
The Act Six program, which started last year, provides full scholarships each year to as many as 10 students chosen for their leadership potential from Portland high schools.
The Obama image at George Fox is the third publicized incident on Oregon college campuses in the past year involving racist images hanging from trees.
At Oregon State University in Corvallis last fall, a noose was left hanging from a tree after a fraternity Halloween party. And at Reed College in Portland, a Halloween display last year included dummies, supposed to represent ghosts, hanging by nooses from trees on campus. In both incidents, students said they didn't intend the images to be racist.
Nike and Greg Oden might be the only reasons my black ass would step foot in the Pacific Northwest... See y'all at the polls.
It's The Paxtons, baby!
Yeah, this is like the 19 millionth time I've posted this song, but I can't lie, it's one of my personal favorites (not to mention I had a hand in finding the beat), and these niggas kilt the track.
And for those who haven't caught these dudes live. How bout some show dates?
- 10/7: Heineken Red Star Soul w/ Jaguar Wright, St. Louis, MO
- 10/17: Shaw University Homecoming, Raleigh, NC
- 10/25: Urban Go Green Tour, Harlem NYC
- 11/14: Casa Frela Gallery w/ DJ Jerome Baker (C'monwealth), NYC
And that November 14th date? First off, shoutouts to my grandmother cuz that's her birthday. Secondly, yours truly is hosting it along with DC's premier streetwear clothier, Commonwealth.

Gossip Folks
- Kid Cudi signed with GOOD Music?
- Lupe put 1st and 15th in his Goyard and took em over to the house that Russell built? (In case you didn't get it, that's Def Jam)
- Wale has "plural" tracks from Ryan Leslie on his forthcoming debut? Does this mean we can expect a Wale/Cassie duet? Oh dear, I hope so!

For real Wale? Where's the love?
So folks, I'm quietly checking my email, as I'm prone to do compulsively, and happen upon the following:
The post in question was the one where I cite Wale's management, elitaste, concerning the projected March release date of his debut. I then provided two tracks that were not only released on the same site, but also available for FREE download all over the internet, especially those with the heaviest traffic such as Nah Right. Still, some snitch reported us for copyright infringement on some BS internet singles? I mean, shoot, of all the ish we put up, those two tracks? Somebody's a hater.
Now, from what I know, the people at Interscope are a lil smarter than that. They wouldn't cock block what amounts to free marketing. Furthermore, I can't understand how or why Wale's ppl would cock block when the internet is the principal reason he is in such a great position as a new artist. No internet = no hype. He got no love on DC radio and is still relatively unknown except to ppl like me who had too much time on our hands and found his ish on 1 of the 7 internets two and three years ago. For those reasons, I'm ready to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that neither Interscope nor Wale's management were responsible for dry snitching. I'm not putting it past them though. I just hope it wasn't Wale's ppl, because it would only serve to substantiate some of the negative things I've been hearing the past few months, but stayed mum about. And to think, I didn't even give any buzz to the Wale diss track that showed up on the net this week either...
Still, if they weren't responsible, which one of you was?
And oh, Blogger deleted the post in question.

SNL is on that comeup
For real, I need a bottle of these for every time I catch myself watching Fox News for more than 30 secs. I haven't caught any of SNL's live episodes recently, but what I catch off the 3rd internet has been pretty good. They really tryna step their game up. And did anybody catch Jimmy Kimmel's Night of Stars last night? That's a funny dude.
Sorry, Marsha

The Early Bird...
So I'm still not good at checking the blog's inbox regularly, which accounts for missing out on some good drops. Anyway, Studio 43 had an Art Show last Tuesday and sent us some pics. Marky and KB were of course there, along with other local celebs Tabi Bonney, Raheem Devaughn and others.
There are more pics, but I'm busy. Also, they sent me this. KB does these regularly and I usually don't post them, but since it's Chicago, hometown of my brother-in-blog, I went ahead and gave it a pass.

I'm a biter and a writer
I still write stuff other than bombastic blog posts littered with sarcasm. An original piece written some point over the summer, feel free to leave comments:
Janus at the pond
Some things are meant more than others
like rainfall: truth is measured in inches
What is left is rarely worth mentioning
After discovering myself I
wondered whose self the other face is
and which one I preferred?--my reflection
Cannot lay claim to me unless I fall
headfirst into this pool and choke to death
in which case we both lose
So I will greet you as you are, the destroyer
come to offer yourself as prodigal inheritance
liminal gift of impending bereavement.

One A Day
Allow me this. Today is Thursday, and every Thursday, Spring to Fall, there's a Farmer's Market at Clark Park in West Philly. My first couple years here, I never knew about it because I either had class or was at work til they kicked me out the building. Now that I've got the hang of things, I often catch it on my walks home from the trolley stop on Woodland Ave.
Today's farmer's market seemed no different than any other: nice people, fresh fruits and veggies--all is well. Then, suddenly, I saw one stand selling one of the greatest delicacies since fried chicken and watermelon: honeycrisp apples.
This time last year, I bought a honeycrisp apple on a whim at a grocery store and was surprised at how sweet and juicy it was. I kept going back day after day until suddenly they stopped selling them.
Well, I now know that it was because the fruit had gone out of season, and as I tried other varieties to see if I could find an appropriate substitute, I was constantly disappointed. Nothing lived up to that honeycrisp.
But now, all is well again. Honeycrisps are in season, and I bought about a dozen from some inbred looking Pennsylvania Dutch woman who frowned when I asked if they took credit cards.
They did take credit and I put $3 on my check card cuz I couldn't wait to go to an ATM and left with a bag of honeycrisps. All that to say, go get one for yourself. It's worth the hype.
Have No Fear
The most anticipated R&B debut release since... dare I say, Beyonce? Saw it at school but waited til I got home to post it. You know what to do. Click that album cover. It's yours.
*Edit: I try not to cuss too much on the blog, but this shit is vicious. That "Live A Lie" beat? Cawt Dayum! I'll be surfing for that instrumental for the next few months.

Harrison Ford
Oscar Pistorius is officially the baddest man in South Africa not named Mandela. Word to the panhandler from KIDS...
A. His nickname is Blade Runner
B. He runs a 46.25s (LaShawn Merritt won gold in Beijing with a 43.75) in the 400 meters with prosthetic blades in "able-bodied competition". Thats Spanish for people with legs.
C. He finished one place short of qualifying for the South African Olympic team this spring
D. His nickname is Blade Runner!
The problem...
A. Pistorius's limbs used 25% less energy than able-bodied runners to run at the same speed, and that leads to less vertical motion combined with 30% less mechanical work for lifting the body.
B. The 'blades' return more energy per stride without ever becoming fatigued or requiring the same investment of energy and they are not subject to metabolite or lactic acid build-up that slows down ordinary athletes
C. The 'blades' he uses are longer than is necessary, allowing him to cover more ground in each stride
Oscar Pistorius completed his gold-medal haul at the Paralympics on Tuesday in Beijing, winning the 400 meters to go with sprint victories in the 100 and 200.
The South African double amputee known as "The Blade Runner" finished in 47.49 seconds, a world record for his disability class in a meet sanctioned by the International Paralympic Committee.
Pistorius, 21, runs on carbon-fiber blades. He was born without a fibula, a bone in the lower leg, and both legs were amputated below the knee when he was 11 months old.
Pistorius' next goal is to qualify for the world championships next year in Berlin, where he would face able-bodied runners. (AP)
Fear The Turtle
For a DB with a combined 5 tackles since the start of the 2007 season... Kevin Barnes is a beast. I'ma need to holla at somebody bout them Terrapins tickets if they keep this up!
Taxation Without Representation, Pt. 4
Its been a long time... I know... but there just wasnt much of nay-than going on in the district worth promoting. Needless to say, if you're gonna be here for the next week and some change its gon be stripes, flags and whistles.

Broad Street Bullies
Hypebeast put up a feature today on the good folks at Ubiq here in Philly. As the big dogs on Walnut, they catch a lotta flack from some people for being snobs. Personally, it's always love whenever I'm there, but I know sneakerheads and hipsterrati are a sensitive bunch, so I'm not gonna demean or belittle those who have that opinion. Then again, some of yall think I'm a snob, so maybe we have that in common.
Down 4 Life
I've always been a fan of T.I. I'm now his official stan. Mr. Got Em for the L-O has a big helping of humble pie to eat. Hail to the king.
Hammertime
Pray for Mr. Garr's safety out here in the streets of Philly y'all.
Us pedestrians need to rise up against this type of mess... Just because you're on public transportation does not give you the right to be crazy for crazy's sake! I've already boycotted Greyhounds thanks to Vince Weiguang Li, now I cant ride the train in Philly...
Philadelphia police arrested Thomas Scantling, 26 year-old with a criminal history, and charged him with attempted murder.
One of the most disturbing aspects of the attack is that nobody on the subway, and there were a number of fellow passengers, did nothing to protect 20 year-old Dewayne Taylor as he was being attacked. He received numerous stitches and a broken finger and says he does not know his attacker or have any idea why he was targeted.
As the video shows, Thomas Scantling ushers his 5-year-old son to a seat before taking a hammer out of his backpack and attacking Dewayne Taylor who is sitting in another seat. The fight continues onto a subway platform where Scantling allegedly tried to throw Taylor onto the tracks.

I'm only posting this as homage to my alma mater. As much as I hate on STL, this dude at least made it bearable. "Hot in Herre"? Yeah, you can't deny hearing Nelly while in St. Louis made a party hype. Now I have no idea what it'd do now, but like I said, it's more homage than cosign. Click the album cover.

Man of the Year
Today was clearly a much-needed slow day on the gig if I watched a whole dj(insert the name of your favorite mixtape dj) tv interview with (insert your five favorite blogs' favorite rapper of the moment) today... I'm lying. I didnt watch the whole ten minutes. But DJ Semtex's interview with Styrofoam Cup Weezy (he's baaaaaaaack) revealed a few interesting points.
Drake is signed to Young Money
Dr. Carter was originally intended for Jay-Z
Apparently he had no idea what made the final tracklist for Tha Carter 3
I suppose the whole Drake signing to Young Money thing would explain why Wayne spit Drake's verse from Money To Blow over the Misunderstood instrumental during his VMA performance... and here I thought he was stealing. Of course not. Wayne was bigging up his brother, cuz he's big enough to do it. By the way, Leona Lewis is bad. If only her song wasn't so Marlon & Shawn White Girls with it, I just might have obsessed over her back in the spring like T-Money.

Social Darwinism
Despite the fact that good guys wear black and lake michigan used to be my backyard, I'm never one to drink the kool-aid regarding artists from Chicago, however when a nigga happens to be dope aaaaaand from the city of broad shoulders (Lupe, 'Ye, Mic Terror, etc...) I'm behind it 110%. Thats why y'all need to educate yourselves on my man TNS real quick. As one-half of The EP, he's got two EP's under his belt and the newest release is fresh to say the least. Erase all thoughts of Kid Sister or Mikey & Chuck out of your heads immediately... theres lyricsim abound here and a nice selection of beats. I'm personally hooked on World Play & Nothing Compares Click the cover to download.
The Native Soul (TNS) - An Evolution
...and just for good measure, I've been killing this jawn for like a year before I even heard Drake's Comeback Season mixtape. I think you'll like it understand why.

Shawwwtay Say What's Your Price?
Moms just hipped me to the fact that I have unclaimed property in Missouri today. Unclaimed property is an appropriate way of stating that them niggas got ta pay what they owe, or its finna be smoke in the city... or something like that.
As random as this may seem, I figured I'd drop some knowledge your way as you might also have $1 - $5 dollars locked up in one of these 50 state governements from sea to shining sea. Might not sound like much, but I'm sure Mr. Garr feels me... let the dollar circulate! I dont know how every other state does it, but for those of you YH!SN... faithful that got edjumacated in the Show Me State like myself and Mr. Garr, you might wanna hit up that yung state treasurer's office.
And a word from 2008's official milk carton all-star... RICH BOY!

Rock City
For those of you unfamiliar with the current political drama unfolding in Detroit... holla at my dood, DG from In Our Hands NYC. Anywho back in April, Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers, Kilpatrick's most ardent supporter (save for his mother) and wife of Congressman John Conyers, got into a heated argument with Council President Ken Cockrel during a live council meeting. The end result was her certifiably japping on this nigga and calling him Shrek, amongst other wildly disrespectful dialogue. Following this she was brought before Detroit students to discuss her behavior in what I'm sure was intended to be a positive press opp. The end result, Councilwoman Conyers being baited into an argument with an 8th grader which succintly concluded with young'n scolding "sometimes people need to think before they act".
Somewhere around the way, Mrs. Conyers managed to threaten shooting DeDan Milton and take bribes from Synagro for a $47M sludge dumping contract (as if detroit wasnt dirty enough) in a seemingly action-packed year. I love my people... enjoy the clip!

Thank You, Come Again
The dude's over at Studio 43 sent this my way yesterday. I've neglected to post most the stuff I receive in our inbox, but I'll get better. Promise. For those unaware, Marky filled the void left by Wale's departure from Kenny Burns' Studio 43. I'm not gonna front like I know his material; I don't. There was brief internet chatter about beef between Wale and Marky waaaaay back. It seemed aimed at stimulating hype so I kinda ignored it.

Rapper Ternt Sanga?
The following post was submitted by one of our most--if not the most--avid readers back in April. Reading Dave's VMA Kanye post reminded me of it. I guess we aren't the only ones ahead of the curve. Enjoy:
Over the past couple of years, I’ve seen many declarative shirts that follow this template:
(New fad that probably wont last that long) IS THE NEW (Old Classic that we will revisit after a few months of Nostalgia)
With that being said, I have noticed a trend that has been cusping for a while, and with the latest joints featuring Phonte crooning (and sounding good might I add!), it hit me:
SINGING IS THE NEW RAPPING.
Take a second and just think about it. I mean let’s be real, we’re all used to rappers wanting to do something other than rap: act, play ball, act, own teams, run record labels, act, etc., but I never thought I’d see the day where the bully’s of the music industry would go Ralph Tresvant on us by the bundle. Isn’t this the same thing that 50 Cent used to end Ja Rule’s career? But then, he is singing his heart out on a few cuts (i.e. 21 Question, Take You To The Top, etc.), so 50 is the face of rap hypocrisy.
But as I start to really think about it, this really isn’t all that new. Crooning rappers have become the Navy Seals of Music, sneaking up on us and setting up shop on our musical shores before we even have a say. Here’s is a list of 10 notable Rappa Ternt Sangas (this list is in no particular order).
Honorable Mentions: Black Thought (If you haven’t seen The Roots live then you prolly don’t know; Diddy (Last Night was enough to consider him for this list); K-Os (I’m not really sure which one he did first though…); Snoop (Sexual Eruption. Nuff Said.); Lupe Fiasco (see: Kanye West); Nelly (see: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony); Pharrell (I feel like he’s more singer than rapper; and more producer than anything);

- Lil’ Wayne- Apparently Weezy F. got bit by same Haunted Synthesizer that turned T-Pain into Nate Dogg 3000. At Least he ain’t tryna “REALLY SANG”, cuz we could just imagine (shudder)…
- Ja Rule- Don’t Front. Anything with him and Lil’ Mo was good money…like 5 years ago. Everybody was “crying together” when Rule 3:3-6 came out…’til the Hail Mary dis record came out. Speaking of which…
- 50 Cent- I’m not gonna front; I like 50 more as a singer than a rapper. And you do too…“You ain’t gotta take ya panties off/ Just pull ‘em to the side?” “I tell these hoes all the time, ‘Bitch get in my car!’” Just think about it…
- Mos Def- My Umi: Jordan used it to sell his shoes. Jordan knows what’s up. Why don’t you?
- Andre 3000- Don’t get it twisted. He is the best rapper alive. But he’s great at so many other things too. Like crooning. If you didn’t get (understand) The Love Below, then you don’t know what love is.
- Cee-Lo Green- Before he was Gnarly, he was the Soul Machine. Before he was the Soul Machine, he was one of the dopest in the A. Learn yo’ history chilluns!
- Bone Thugs-N-Harmony- These dude pulled off the greatest musical caper since Milli Vanili. They had everybody thinking they were rappers. When you’re done with this article, go back and listen to E. 1999 Eternal…don’t feel bad. They got me too.
- Will.I.Am- Because he’s such a musical genius, it doesn’t surprise me that he can hold a tune. He killed the Common hook. He kills every hook. I’m dubbin’ him the new Quincy Jones. Now, if only we can get him to stop wearing knickers…
- Kanye West- Maybe he’s tryna save money (since he’s wastes so much making videos then scrapping them), but I noticed he sang a lot of his hooks on Graduation. A word of advice ‘Ye: Save the money on the videos and get Will.I.Am to do your hooks.
- Phonte (Lil’ Brother)- I was floored when I heard the Take on Me and Africa remakes. It was like when the quiet kid at your church gets up and sings a solo, and you’re like “I’ve known this nigga for 7 years, and had no idea.” Part of me was even mad that he kept that cat in the bag for so long.
Honorable Mentions: Black Thought (If you haven’t seen The Roots live then you prolly don’t know; Diddy (Last Night was enough to consider him for this list); K-Os (I’m not really sure which one he did first though…); Snoop (Sexual Eruption. Nuff Said.); Lupe Fiasco (see: Kanye West); Nelly (see: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony); Pharrell (I feel like he’s more singer than rapper; and more producer than anything);
Double The Fun
So yeah, we posted this already. Still, it was a bootleg version (check the bit rate). I only posted it for cool points, but now I guess it has officially become my young boo's next single, so, without further ado, I present you the official version along with the instrumental (hint: Dave, a possible remix?).
Your favorite blogger's favorite bloggers are currently grinding hard on our more official duties (you know, the ones that pay the bills), but don't worry, we haven't forgotten about you and will try to continue to post the best of what we scrap from the bottom-feeders of the 7 internets. Until then, you can always google your way through the sieve.
