Golden shower jokes aside, this is a really disturbing image. Perhaps bleach blonde hair on black men never made you uncomfortable in the past (a la Sisqo, B-More stand up!), but this ol' Helga lookin-ass-nigga simply makes me fear for the progress of our people and my unborn daughter that may someday walk the halls of Kenwood Academy. I guess the more exposure to the world and creative outlets we receive, the more eccentric we may become until we completely lose our ability to put the "b" in suBtle. Which brings me to this...


I know what you're thinking... "Kelz could have really benefited from one of those", but I was actually pondering, "I pray this wasn't one of those 'last page of xxl magazine' joints". It isnt. Which brings us to Wale, the D.C.-born go-go-fueled rapper who in recent weeks dropped some puck into his latest track, "Back in the Go Go" like so:

"It's a double meaning: capital is money and the Capital is Washington D.C.," Wale said during a brief telephone conversation this afternoon. "I mean, I mentioned Olaf Kolzig before, but the song never made it out....It was kind of like the same thing: 'Olaf Kolzig, my goal is capital.'...A lot of rappers mention sports a lot, but it's mostly basketball. Mines are a little bit more obscure. I guess my brain works a little differently, I don't know. I don't hear too many of those [hockey references]. It is what it is. It's just part of rap, just staying relevant with things that are going on."

So he's a Caps fan?

"Never even been to a Capitals game; watch 'em on TV every once in a while," Wale said. "I'd root for them when I watch because it's D.C. I root for every local team, definitely root for them. And it doesn't hurt that we have the best player in hockey, it don't hurt."

I don't know whether Stephen Malkmus has previously praised D.C. athletes, but Wale has, of course, made liberal use of D.C. sports references throughout his career, from Freddy Adu to John Gilchrist ("Home of the Terrapins, beware of the Gilchrist"), from Sean Taylor to Clinton Portis to a Redskins rap penned for Comcast SportsNet, from Gilbert Arenas to the Hoyas. ("The home of Marvin Gaye; That's all I gotta say; Yeah, Iverson was cool; but I supported Victor Page.")

"I just write," he said, when asked how he decides which local athletes to mix into his verse. "It's not like you say, 'I'm gonna mention four players [now],' you know what I mean? It's just whatever I'm thinking about at the time. You're just writing a song, and whatever comes out, you don't really plan it."

His checklist now includes players from the Caps, the Wizards, the Redskins, D.C. United, Maryland and Georgetown, but no Nats. Does this cultural moment not extend to Half Street?

"I wear a Washington Nationals hat every day," Wale offered. "I'm wearing one right now, actually."

Or at least thats how I fantasized it.

"The Post is reporting that an off-duty Metropolitan Police officer shot a man who was attempting to rob him at a gas station in Northeast early this morning.

A police spokesperson told the paper the shooting took place at around 12:30 a.m. at 905 Brentwood Rd. NE, though it seems like the gas station in question actually has to be the Lowest Price Gas Station at 925 Brentwood Rd. NE, as no gas station appears to be listed at the 905 address. The robbery suspect is in critical condition.

UPDATE: WJLA is reporting that the suspect has died. They also say that the suspect's gun was recovered, and that police believe he also tried to rob the gas station. Images captured by the news station confirm that it was indeed the Lowest Price Gas Station at 925 Brentwood Rd. NE."

I'm a new soul

It's been a long time coming, but your boy finally got that white... laptop. Just got the macbook and I'm hype. I didn't want the white jawn but i'm bout to get the black hardcase from incase so it won't even matter. So far so good, except it won't play the .avi file i put on it. I was tryna watch the Boondocks BET episode on it but it said i had to download some xvid codec. Oh well, i'll figure it out at some point. And oh, this is the first post via macbook. Allow me to say that if these two men aren't running our country this time next year, I'll be extremely sad and disheartened about America. Hilary, who I once supported after Edwards dropped out, has single-handedly made it possible for John McCain to be elected President. Before her last-ditch smut campaign against Obama, both she and Barack were ahead in the polls against McCain. Since then, Obama's losing and Hilary is neck and neck. Good job, b!tch.

Add to that that the "Obama-bashing" has reached cruise control and I'm not sure if I'll even vote if I have to choose between Hilary Clinton and John McCain. Even Fox News's own people are saying enough is enough. I mean shoot, it's gotta be time to reel it back in if a Klansman tells another Klansman, "I think we're going too far Billy Bobby."

Over at NBC, Keith Olberman gave an unprecedented "get ur act together" speech to Hilary Clinton. What I think is beautiful about this campaign is that it's forcing everyone out of their comfort zones, the not-so-tidy cubbyholes we live in and forcing us to reexamine everything. If nothing else, Obama has accomplished the feat of bringing America down off its high horse and put a mirror in front of it, but not for derision's sake, but rather to inspire all of us to actually make the American dream more of a reality for everyone.

Even I, the perennial cynic that I most often am, felt like the Democratic race was the best-run campaign of my lifetime, because it presented voters with real options minus the minutia of highly politicized prattle about stuff we shouldn't care about. Candidates talked about the issues like adults and then left it up to the voters to decide. It was gentlemenly (and gentlewomanly) that, in the end, we were all thinking that it was already set in stone that Barack and Hilary would be on the same ticket and coast to an easy victory in November. I had personally hoped for a Clinton/Obama ticket with Hilary as head honcho (pun not intended) because she has great ideas and a wealth of experience and connection to actually make those ideas a reality and Obama cuz I felt like he could hold down the #2, cut his teeth, and after Hilary leaves, be the greatest President since FDR, Lincoln, or maybe ever in the history of the whole world, ya dig?

But now, it's back to the tried and true bulldiddy of American politics. My homey Shakespeare said it best:
