More Ish I Can't Afford

Visvim stays killing it. I've been looking for both logans and fbt shamans on ebay for a while now but prices are always ridiculous. (Half a stack for kicks is not recession-conducive.) These new jawns for Fall/Winter '09 are hot fiya tho. Someday, Mr. Garr. Someday...

Two Pair

Thanks to the recession, I haven't bought a new pair of sneakers all year. I've almost pulled the trigger a couple times , but priorities being what they are, the AMEX stays put. This might change if I ever come across these in person at Ubiq or in Soho tho. Get these jawns now, by the time Spring '10 hits, they will be oh so broken-in and fresh.

Take this as a mini-lesson folks, cuz I'm starting to share again.

A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss

Peeped these earlier in the year and I received this in the inbox from Moss today:

The Nike Sportswear 1 World is a collection of AF1, created in partnership with global innovators in the fields of sport, music, art and design. Nike invited 18 innovators from across the world to re-imagine the Air Force 1. Early in the process, Nike Design selected Maharam, the 107-year-old American textile house renowned for its leadership in design innovation, to participate. Maharam's unique interpretation of the AF1 introduces a silhouette constructed of Layers, a textile created by the Maharam Design Studio in collaboration with Jongerius. Layers, produced in 100% wool felt, uses sophisticated embroidery equipment played against artisanal hand-cutting to create patterning, resulting in an "industrial craft" hybrid. This already complex textile was further engineered to meet the specific needs of the AF1. The result represents a multi-disciplinary undertaking, bridging disparate aspects of industrial design including sports technology, textile design and the conceptual avant-garde. Layers is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum.

A pair of classic kicks that are innovative but still low-key? Pretty much my estilo. Gimme 2 Pair

I think the combination of the recession and me getting older has meant a maturation in my sartorial predilections. A nigga just can't cop 4 pairs of kicks in one day anymore. With money as tight as it is, and my AMEX not as friendly as it used to be, a nigga's gotta keep it simple. Outside of the eggplant foams, the last pair of shoes I bought were the Timberland Abington's, which I have not stopped wearing since. (Even my students have asked me to stop wearing them.) Before them it was my DQM Chukka's back in October. Those who know me know that that is a marked decline in shoe shoppage. (I did scoop a pair of RL loafers on a steep discount tho, but they don't count.)

My cabin fever is at an all-time high right now and when spring finally arrives, I'll prolly be on a similar steez. A few pair and that's it. So without further ado, the only shoes a nigga needs for spring/summer '09:

No Yeezy's--although if any of yall wanna cop them Kanye LV jawns for me, I'm game--and I might actually make the trip to NYC to get them One's or maybe them New Balances. I'm currently considering selling off a few pairs at rock-bottom recession prices jus cuz i'm tired of having such a gluttonous collection. More on that later.

No Days Like Snow Days

Red Wings are for hypebeasts. This shoe is easily the hottest winter boot out. I don't think I'll be wearing anything else until the temperature gets back up above 50 regularly.

Sick

I would consider paying retail for these. In fact, don't be surprised if you see these on my feet. Rent will wait. (sike nah...)

Who Needs Laces?

Ubiq's El is probably my most favoritest sneaker in my closet right now. They're so comfy, cozy, and equally fly. (For those who don't know, Ubiq is a Japanese sneaker brand and a US sneaker boutique based in Philly. Sadly, most of their sneakers are sold in Japan.) I wear them more than any other single pair and even bought my sister a pair for her birthday in December.

But since most El colorways are Japan-only releases, it was bittersweet when I happened upon these new jawns online.




Hopefully the Walnut St. shop will get some of these (hint hint, Andy. Tell corporate we need these stateside!) If not, I might have to resort to coppin the new Supra slip-ons.


I could do without the detachable perforated leather thingy tho. :-x
