No Jacket Required

The long-awaited, much-anticipated complete release from The Paxtons. They just completed a successful promo tour in NYC this Labor Day Weekend and are poised to begin their world takeover. My unbiased review is that this is a monster of a mixtape, on par with that of any well-known rapper. Proof is in the fact that the whole mixtape takes two links. For more info (including promo tees!), be sure to check out www.paxtonavenue.com.

Take it and spread it.

Super Smash Brothers

Complex Magazine, the publication that hypebeasts love, cool guys love to hate, and everybody buys, is featuring The Paxtons as part of their Emerging Artists Challenge. A definite resume builder for the duo and yet another cosign that the hype is deserved, they are currently in the first round of the competition. If the judges of Complex and OnSmash.com decide that they're worthy (and why wouldn't they?), they'll be one of 10 finalists to win a music video shoot, at which point you can count on yours truly to bombard you with not-so-subtle suggestions that you vote (or die). Check out the site here and tell your friends you were on it first.

You're Excused

Allow me to pull back the shades for you guys. The Paxtons are here pretty much forever, so make plenty of room on your hard drives. Blog regulars might remember this instrumental from Audiophilia. You prolly recall that there was no info about it huh? When I say I'm an artist with this, I more or less mean it. Just to whet the appetites of the numbers of you who remember the instrumental, I'll also remind you of this post. Wait? Is that the sample of a sample? Yeah, we do that here. As Jay once said, "Soon you'll understand," and that day is today.

Why the hoopla? Well, I'm going to say that, were this a track from an established artist, the internets would be in a tizzy right now. "Bless You" is worse than cooked crack (or better, depending on your personal proclivities). It's a track that stands comfortably on its own as an instrumental, except after hearing these guys rap over it, you're happy it's not just an instrumental. I'm not gonna say it's the next "A Milli," but it's close and not nearly as annoying after repeated listening.

All that to say, the Paxtons bandwagon is picking up speed. The homies at Goadome Talk shouted them (and us) a holler yesterday. Don't get left. Naysayers, get a job. And the rest of you wonderful people, download, disfruta, and distribute to your friends. You too can be a music snob. Get on that fresh "You ain't up on this!" music.

The Paxtons mixtape, Members Only, will be released next month here at youhypesikenah.blogspot.com. More on that in coming days and weeks. If you're in the DMV and wanna hear what the fuss is about, they'll be back at Almaz this Thursday performing after shutting down the show last week along with the Best Brothas. And did I say it was a free show? Oh, the show is free! (With a complimentary buffet and drink specials.)

It's summertime, ¡disfrĂștate!

Romance, sheer delight, how sweet

Footage from The Paxtons' last show at Bloom in DC. They're in the midst of preparing the release of their latest mixtape Members Only which, as one of the few persons to have heard the mixtape in its entirety, is hot fiya. This track is one of my personal faves.

More on that later, but as homey said, their next show is this Thursday at Almaz. I'll be there (yup, 5:00 Chinatown, my nigs), so you might as well jump on the bandwagon while there's still room to sit. I don't wanna be the one to say "I told you so."

If you're lucky, you might even catch another one of Cee's crooning sessions, word to Phontigga.

Ben's Chili Bowl On Me

If you're in the DMV on Thursday, looka here boy! (trademark Rich Boy, registrata 2007) If you're in Philly, but have nothing to do on Fridays (ahem) this means you as well. The Paxtons will be performing at Almaz on 12th & U for no more than a sawbuck. Thats Chicago for $10.

After jamming to The Paxtons on U Street, make sure you slide over to the C'monwealth x Shop Gentei party at Geisha Lounge

I love this game.

Why everything that's sposed to be bad make me feel so good?

Allow me to formally introduce you to the next great movement outta the Nation's Capital. Rap duo chris&dave have almost a decade's worth of EPs, LPs, and mixtapes under their respective belts as rappers, producers, and sometimes even, singers--the end to their version of 702's "I Still Love You" is still an all-time favorite. They've gone by many different names throughout this period. Hailing from Chicago's South Side, and having spent a few years in the black hole that is St. Louis, the duo has settled into the District of Columbia with much ease and little fanfare until now.

I'm sitting on a stack of living-room produced bars of gold and have decided to release a few of the unmastered versions. This first track is simply titled "U & Her" and features in-house production by The Paxtons. If you wanna get an idea of the flavor, I'll give you this tidbit: I saw a stripper walk across the floor on her lower cheeks to this song--no hands. David Kenneth will confirm. It was amazing (as were the other superhuman things we witnessed to this song alone.) No, you won't get much more info other than that, but once you listen to the song, you might get a better idea.

EDIT: New link. I got my hands on the studio version. Tell a friend to tell a friend.

And oh, needless to say, this is a YH!SN... exclusive.

Point Proven

First off, this is a You Hype! Sike Nah... exclusive out of the Paxtons camp. You will not find this anywhere else on the internet unless I put it there. Two cold brothers from the Chi spit red, white, and blue all over the Estelle track.

Trust me, you want this. And it's only the beginning...
